JOHN L. FOX

John L. Fox is an Estate Planning and Probate Law Specialist for individual, professional and corporate clients. Mr. Fox furnishes sophisticated planning in various areas such as Wills and revocable inter-vivos “living” trusts, including the use of by-pass, QTIP and QDOT trusts; Trusts for generation-skipping, Life insurance and retirement benefit planning; Asset protection and family limited partnerships; Charitable and family gift planning; Wealth transfer and business succession planning; Corporate planning through the use of buy-sell, partnership, employment and incentive agreements, and complete probate and trust administration services.

Mr. Fox has been Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of Texas as an Estate Planning and Probate Law Specialist since 1983. He had several years of experience as a trust officer for a major Texas bank prior to entering the private practice of law. Mr. Fox was an instructor for three years for the Advanced Estate Planning section of the CLU and CFP certification curriculum offered through the University of Houston and sponsored by The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Mr. Fox is a member of the Houston (Probate, Trusts and Estates Section) and Fort Bend County Bar Associations; the State Bar of Texas; the Houston Bar Foundation; and the Texas Academy of Probate and Trust Lawyers. He has served on the Board of the Houston Estate and Financial Forum. Mr. Fox has spoken before various civic and financial services groups and served on several boards of charitable organizations in Fort Bend County, Texas, including American Heart Association, Fort Bend Independent School District Education Foundation, Fort Bend Alliance for Drug Prevention and the Wynn and Mary Geiger Foundation. Mr. Fox has a BBA with Honors from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio (1969) and Juris Doctorate from University of Texas School of Law, Austin, Texas (1976). Mr. Fox is married with two adult sons, and served as Captain in the U.S. Air Force (separated 1973).

SAM THOMAS

Sam Thomas is an Estate Planning and Probate Law attorney for individual, professional and corporate clients. Sam furnishes planning in various areas such as Wills and revocable inter-vivos “living” trusts, including the use of by-pass trusts, trusts for generation-skipping transfers, among others. Specifically, Sam’s concentration is in trust and estate administration for high net worth individuals, with a particular focus on those who have complex estate and trust structures that often require implementing tax strategies to save federal gift, estate and income taxes. Sam helps fiduciaries and beneficiaries understand, fulfill and exercise their responsibilities. Sam routinely assists executors of estates in the distribution of trust and estate assets, funding trusts and in the preparation and filing of federal estate tax returns (Form 706).

Sam has been in private law practice in the areas of estate planning and estate & trust administration with Fox & Associates, L.L.P. since 2013. He brings a very personal approach to his practice, building trusted relationships with his clients, their families and advisors that provide him with a deep understanding of their needs and desires. Prior to beginning private practice, Sam served as a law clerk for the Honorable Rory Olsen of Harris County Probate Court No. 3.

Sam is a member of the State Bar of Texas (Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section), the Houston Bar Association (Probate, Trusts and Estates Section) and the Fort Bend County Bar Association. Sam has a B.S. from Houston Baptist University (’02) and a Juris Doctorate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law (’12).

LISA J. KAUFMAN

Lisa J. Kaufman is an Estate Planning and Probate Law attorney for individual, professional and corporate clients. Lisa furnishes sophisticated planning in various areas such as Wills and revocable inter-vivos “living” trusts, including the use of by-pass, QTIP and QDOT trusts; Trusts for generation-skipping, Life insurance and retirement benefit planning; Asset protection and family limited partnerships; Charitable and family gift planning; Wealth transfer through family gift planning and business succession planning; Corporate planning through the use of buy-sell, partnership and employment agreements; and complete probate and trust administration services to executors and trustees, preparation of federal estate tax returns and distribution of large, complex estates.

Lisa has been in private law practice since 1996 and practiced in the areas of estate planning and estate administration with the firm of Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P., in Houston, Texas, prior to joining Fox & Associates, L.L.P. in 2008 where she currently serves Of Counsel. Lisa is a member of the Houston Bar Association (Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section); the State Bar of Texas (Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section and Computer and Technology Section); Fellow, Texas Bar Foundation and American Bar Association. Prior to practicing law, Lisa was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Lisa has a B.A. from Chatham College (1978) member of Phi Beta Kappa, M.S. from Tulane University (1980), Ph.D. from University of Pittsburgh (1984) member of Sigma Xi, and Juris Doctorate from University of Houston College of Law (1989). Lisa and her husband, Chris, live in Galveston, Texas.
